A thief has been arrested in Brazil after he allegedly placed customer photos over a dummy to access their banks accounts and take out loans.
The 34-year-suspect was able go around the mobile banking app’s facial recognition log in option with the images of the account holders to proceed with the scam, the São Paulo Civil Police said.
Authorities apprehended the individual on Friday at his home in the municipality of Barueri and confiscated a pile of photos of the victims who were targeted and ammunition for a 9mm firearm, according to Brazilian news outlet Metropoles.
Video of the operation recorded by the cops shows how the suspect was able to place one of the pictures on the dummy, allowing the him to execute the scam without being caught.
The arresting officers also seized 17 card machines, a safe to store the cards and a cellphone.

The suspect, the cops said, would take a large cutout with each victim’s photo and attached it on top of a stick inside the dummy prior to logging into the account.
Instead of typing in the account holder’s username and password, the thief would select the face id option and place a cellphone in front of the dummy to enter the account and apply for the loan.
Authorities have not revealed how much money the scammer was able to take out in loans.

The arrest comes after an influencer and her boyfriend were taken into custody as they were about to rob a customer in front of a Rio de Janeiro bank on June 7.
Dubbed the modern-day Bonnie and Clyde, the couple were alleged members of a gang that targeted their victims who deposited or withdrew money from bank ATM machines.
In April, she and her boyfriend, Edmilson Souza, participated in two robberies at the same bank where they were eventually busted.
